Flying Dreams
Freud interpreted such dream images as erotic wishful thinking.
In a broader perspective, they stand for uninhibitedness and the liberation from possibly self-created limitations. In fact, flying in a dream puts many people in a kind of intoxicated state, which was interpreted in ancient times as love intoxication and can be found in almost all mythological ideas. However, this interpretation of a flight dream is secondary, since nowadays flying has become a completely everyday thing, - thereby the dream statement has also changed. If the dreaming flies upwards in his dream, this means that he wants to align his life more strongly according to spiritual points of view, - if he flies downwards, this shows that he turns to his subconscious and makes an effort for deeper understanding. Dreams of flying are very common and occur more often in men than in women. They symbolize the urge for freedom, which is stronger in men than in women. In general,
they set warning signs, especially if the dreamer himself flies like a bird, that is, without any aids.
Modern dream research evaluates flying as a dangerous exaggeration of self-confidence. In addition, the conclusion can be drawn that flying at a high altitude already includes the later falling, - translated: Only too easily can someone crash during a high-altitude flight and fall into the bottomless nothingness. On the other hand, the soul of the flight dreamer can get wings and be detached from all earthly heaviness. Anyone who flies without an aircraft and hovers over the dream landscape seems to be far away with his thoughts in waking life and to close himself off to the realities of life. One would like to rise above the current conditions, perhaps even flee from them without having to make an effort. If you crash while flying, you will fail with a plan because the goals are too ambitious.
The Egyptians believed that someone who flies away in a dream will find a way out of a tricky situation.
